untouched. The Bolivian Altiplano is one of them.
Our expedition ventures deep into the heart of southwest Bolivia, where immense salt plains merge with volcanic horizons, mineral-rich lakes glow in brilliant shades of crimson and turquoise, and flamingos thrive at elevations few other species can endure. This is a journey through one of the highest and most remarkable wilderness regions on the planet.
Traveling in small groups by specially equipped 4×4 vehicles, we explore far beyond the
ordinary tourist route, allowing time to slow down, observe, and understand the landscapes that have been shaped over millions of years. From the endless white expanse of the Salar de Uyuni to the geothermal fields of Sol de Mañana and the windswept deserts of the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve, every day reveals another chapter in the geological story of the Andes.
The expedition is as much about people as it is about place. Along the way, we meet
communities whose traditions remain deeply connected to the rhythms of the Altiplano, learn how salt has sustained livelihoods for generations, and discover the resilience required to live in one of the world’s most challenging environments.
Wildlife has adapted in remarkable ways to these high elevations. Three species of flamingos feed in mineral-rich lagoons, graceful vicuñas roam the puna grasslands, and Andean foxes and native birds inhabit landscapes that appear almost otherworldly. For photographers, the changing light transforms the scenery from dawn until long after sunset, while the exceptionally clear atmosphere offers extraordinary opportunities for stargazing beneath some of the darkest skies in South America.
